Ws are Longer

In this era people nowadays get used to doing things the shorter way. We do our most of our work almost effortlessly due to the advancements in technology. We travel from one place to another in just a short time thanks to transportation. Food is also served in an instant. Even messages are relayed in just a flash. Not to mention our speech has been reduced in the form of abbreviations such as WTF, FTW, LMAO, BRB, TTYL, etc. in order to convey it briefly in text messages, chat, and e-mail.

But have you noticed acronyms with "w" in it are harder to say as contrasted to saying its original words. Examples are FTW and WTF.

shortened words:
  1. FTW
  2. WTF

how it's pronounced:
  1. ef-ti-dubb'l-yoo
  2. dubb'l-yoo-ti-ef
original word:
  1. for the win
  2. what the f*ck
As seen above, it only takes 3 syllables to say "for the win" than " ef-ti-dubb'l-yoo " which has 5. "what the f*ck" too has the same syllabication as that of the former.

Obviously, it's the letter "w" that's lengthening the acronyms. It is easier to spell out "w" than saying it. Furthermore, the advantage of using "w" acronyms are only in text messages, chat, and e-mail but not in "real" conversations. So next time you're talking to someone, make sure you say "for the win" and "what the f*ck" instead of "FTW" and "WTF"; you know that you're lazy to say " ef-ti-dubb'l-yoo " and " dubb'l-yoo-ti-ef ".
